Insights and Industry news you will not want to miss

Perspective

Well, things seem back to normal again. The first Moto GP test of the year is done, World Superbikes are testing and the MotoAmerica season will start before you know it. It got me thinking… Of all the riders in any given series, how many are truly capable of winning...

Exciting News for 2017

I hope everyone had an awesome holiday season – 2016 was a great year and 2017 looks like will be even better. 2016 saw two official STAR schools at Chuckwalla and both were fantastic. We are again planning two this year, with our first event in March followed...

The Year So Far

It’s been an interesting year for me on all fronts. Having the opportunity to work for BEIN Sports and be part of the resurgence of racing in America has been very special for me and something I have taken great pride in. Seeing that we are gaining more interest from...

A New Role

As some may or may not know I have been lucky enough to be selected as the color commentator for BEIN Sports coverage of our National Series here in America, MotoAmerica. I have been in this hot seat before but on a limited basis as I was filling in for people if they couldn’t make it.

How good is your gear?

One of the things I take a lot of pride in is the safety of our students. Whether its a STAR school or a JP43 Training 1on1, I can’t help but notice what people wear on the track. I do realize that budget determines what a lot of us buy but how much is your health and safety really worth?

WSBK kicks off

One of the coolest things about racing motorcycles professionally is the anticipation of the year ahead. New bikes, teams, riders moving around etc, etc… its a new playing field. Everyone goes into that first event with positive vibes and hoping that any work they have done in the offseason will power them through the year.

Its a New Year!

So what New Year’s goals have you set for yourself for 2016? An even better question, do you remember what goals you set for 2015? Were they accomplished? As a rider where do you want to be? How are you going to be different than last year? And what are you basing...

Basing Your Pace on Conditions

Winter Riding For the past 5 weeks I have been lucky enough to ride 5 different race tracks. The list is pretty good. Aragon, Laguna Seca, Spring Mountain, Chuckwalla and Buttonwillow. Everyday that I have ridden the weather has been perfect with abundant sunshine at...

Marquez Vs Rossi

The Clash Well, what’s new in Moto GP? Hmmm……. I, like the rest of you, watched the Malaysian Gran Prix last Sunday. Pedrosa won right?? It was truly a great performance for Dani and yet most people will never remember it. What went on with Rossi and Marquez will be...

2015 MotoGP Championship

Who are you betting on? A couple weeks ago I wrote a column talking about the fastest and the smartest. How lucky have we been to witness this MotoGP season? It could only be more interesting if Marquez could have figured into the points here at the close of the year...

Nicky Hayden

I rarely reflect on my past, instead I am always thinking of how I can move forward and better help people with what their future riding holds for them. This last week was a bit different for me. As I get older it’s becoming harder to not look back and think of things...

Will The Smartest Win Moto GP?

How good is Moto GP right now! I mean, I realize it could always be better but this year has had some real drama. So far the biggest thing for me has been the weather. One thing I always express to young kids I get to work with is, “lets be the smartest rider...

STAR Motorcycle School and Laguna Seca

So Many Learning Opportunities The first time I can remember being at Laguna Seca was 1976. I was six years old and was on my father’s shoulders after he just won the AMA Superbike National. I remember crossing the track, my dad with champagne bottle in hand, despite...

Watching Progression

Building on STAR Motorcycle Training To be the best rider you have to constantly evolve with the times. Things can change so much year to year that you have to be able to take advantage of what technology gives you. The world of electronics has changed a lot of what...

Eyes Up

If you have taken any motorcycle training at all, I am sure you have been told to keep your eyes up. Unfortunately, unlike at a 2 Day STAR Motorcycle School, many schools say it; very few spend quality time teaching you how to improve this skill. So, let’s talk about...

Stop living with your deficiencies!

I have been doing a lot of traveling lately. Been going to some races and track days. I’ve run across so many riders and I often find myself wondering what each individual is thinking about with their riding. I wonder what they are working on? What are their goals?...

Marquez, Rossi, Assen – What’s the Fuss???

I am a bit baffled about the outcome of the latest Moto GP event at Assen. So much so that I thought I would jot down a few things for everyone to ponder. Let me start off by saying that I am a huge fan of Rossi and Marquez so there is no favoritism on my part what so...

What is the “race line” or “fast line”?

I have always looked at corners and wondered of the stories they tell. I’ve never just seen tarmac or pavement, there is so much more to it. Choosing a line in a corner is such a personal choice. There are a lot of things that can determine your fastest, safest and...
